Summary of La Vuelta

Along with the Tour de France and the Giro d'Italia, La Vuelta is the third biggest tour of European cycling to date. Similar to the Tour de France, La Vuelta has 21 stages lasting the three weeks and was also most recently won by Chris Froome. It also is an annual competition beginning in the northeast of Spain sometimes even in the border of France.


Stages 1 to 5 are an easy introduction that are mainly flat to begin with. This takes the race to the east coast of Spain into the city of Villareal. Stages 6 to 10 are similar but begin in the east and end around the southeastern coast. Stages 11 to 15 start at the southern coast and end in the southern mountainous town of Montreal. Stages 16 to 21 start in the North and finish on decent in Madrid.

The race leader wears the red jersey and the points jersey is also green. The King of the Mountains jersey is white and blue polkadots. The Vuelta was most recently won by Chris Froome who also won the points jersey. The KotM jersey most recently won By David Villella.
