The Teams

There are many teams that take part in the Tour de France but the main teams that normally win the tour are as follows that include main race contenders:


  • Team Sky                       - Chris Froom (Has won last three TDF's consecutively)
  • Lotto                               - André Greipel (Biggest Green jersey contender)
  • Movistar                         -  Nairo Quintana (Best young rider winner[white jersey] twice)
  • AG2R La Mondiale       - Romain Bardet (King of the Mts. [Polkadot jersey] winner)
  • Atsana                            - Alberto Contador (Winner of TDF in 2007 and 2009)
  • BMC                              - Cadel Evans (Winner of TDF in 2011)
  • Quick Step Floors          - Mikal Kwiatkowski Won a rainbow Jersey in 2014 (World Campion)
  • Team Dimension Data  - Daniel Techlehaimenot, 2015 (First African to wear the KotM Jersey)
These are among the main teams but there are plenty of other teams that compete in lots of other competetions such as the Giro D'Italia and La Vuelta. These are all organised and ran by the UCI or Union Cycliste Internationale.



The UCI is an organisation that was founded on the 14th of April 1900. It's the governing body of cycling around the world. It wanted to achieve the development of cycling, for all people for competitions like the ones above.

Giro d'Italia is Italy's most popular racing tour and second most popular in Europe. As the Vuelta and the Tour de France, it has 21 days or three weeks of race stages. Running annually, this year the tour is starting off in Israel. The First stage starting off in Jerusalem Israel, is the first ever stage in all of the tours in the UCI that starts outside Europe. Stage 2 starts in Haifa and ends in Tel Aviv. Then the last stage in Israel The pink jersey belongs to the winner of the overall race which most recently was Tom Dumoulin. Summary of the Tour de France

The tour de France is one of Europe's biggest and most well known cycling competition to date. It is a multiple stage bicycle race mainly held in France, while also occasionally passing through nearby countries. Like the other Grand Tours, it consists of 21 stages over a little more than 3 weeks. The tour was first held on the 1st of June 1903 and has been running annually since then. As well as having 21 stages it has four individual jerseys for each different classification or competition. The main jersey is the winner of the general classification's yellow jersey (le Maillot Jaune). The fastest young rider's white jersey is the second classification by time (le Maillot Blanc) the riders competing for this jersey are required to be under the age of 26. Summary of La Vuelta

Along with the Tour de France and the Giro d'Italia, La Vuelta is the third biggest tour of European cycling to date. Similar to the Tour de France, La Vuelta has 21 stages lasting the three weeks and was also most recently won by Chris Froome. It also is an annual competition beginning in the northeast of Spain sometimes even in the border of France. Stages 1 to 5 are an easy introduction that are mainly flat to begin with. This takes the race to the east coast of Spain into the city of Villareal. Stages 6 to 10 are similar but begin in the east and end around the southeastern coast. Stages 11 to 15 start at the southern coast and end in the southern mountainous town of Montreal. Stages 16 to 21 start in the North and finish on decent in Madrid. The race leader wears the red jersey and the points jersey is also green. The King of the Mountains jersey is white and blue polkadots.
